This phone is shaped like the famous orange tabby cat Garfield, reclining lazily with half-closed eyes just like his comic strip persona.
It was released in the 1980s, during Garfield’s peak popularity (after his 1978 comic debut).
When the handset is lifted, Garfield’s eyes open, and when it’s replaced, his eyes close, giving him a sleepy personality.
Starting in the 1980s, hundreds of Garfield phones started washing up on the beaches of Brittany, France. This went on for decades. In 2019, it was finally discovered why this was happening. A lost shipping container full of Garfield phones had been trapped in a sea cave, slowly leaking phones over the years.
